Based on a True Story

-- Intro --

Summer 1996. The European Football Championship was over and I went on my first trip to the United Kingdom. My parents came to the conclusion that their son (me) should improve his english  - with mixed success... (Little bonus fact. When a few boys spoke about the game England versus Germany in a bus and had some trouble with the locals afterwards, our teacher gave us the rule: "Don't talk about football in public!" - fortunately I've never been interested in that kind of soccer).

On a day trip to a small (but beautiful) city (sadly forgot the name) I stumbled into a GW store - something I hadn't seen before. My younger self had heard uncommon stories from a game called Space Crusade or StarQuest, he even knew a guy who owned HeroQuest, but this? No... He had never seen something similar. The damage was done. A few minutes later I came out with a box of five Space Marines (If I'm not mistaken I paid five pounds).

Later I realized that there was more then just one store in England and with the following weeks my "army" started to grow. Cadian Soldiers, Catachan Jungle Fighters, Ratling Snipers - with no idea about the rules I bought what I liked until all of my pocket money was issued...

Back at home I spent hours to paint them and showed them to my friends. We started to play games according to our own rules and ended up buying the 2nd Edition of Warhammer 40.000. I had a small army of Dark Angels (A Captain, two Tactical Squads and a Predator made of cardboard) with a mixid squad of Imperial Soldiers as backup and well, I almost won every game! Until, yea - until we moved on. I forgot about my army and most of the miniatures we're destroyed or got lost over the years.

Although...

a few survived in a tiny box at my parents house where I found them not long ago. They were (and are) in a bad shape with parts missing and awful paint (varnish!) on them (Damn, it took me a while to get rid of the paint and there is still some of it left on the miniatures).

But, I have a plan...

-- The Survivors --

Here they are.

"You're call!" - Sergeant Cooper. He'll find some use in one of my retinues soon.

Catachan Jungle Fighter joins forces with a Cadian Soldier.

This guy is going to be the base for my Yaktribe Competition V entry.

-- Bonus Round --

"Why doesn't he show us one of his earlier masterpieces? In color...", I hear you asking? Sure, if you read the whole post so far then you deserve some kind of bonus, right?

Captain Doom, Master of the Sword, True Hero of Caliban (standing on a goblin green base).

Thanks for reading!
